You are on a work call in Zoom. Someone on the team shares a document, and your WeChat window sits right on the desktop beside it — a personal chat, a family group, a photo you did not mean to show. One wrong share and everyone sees it.

Here is how to keep WeChat off your screen share on Windows, in any meeting app.

Why WeChat leaks into your meeting

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet share whatever is on your screen. If you share the desktop, every open window goes into the stream — WeChat included, with its chat previews and notifications.

Minimizing WeChat does not help much. Its message bubbles still pop up over your presentation, Alt-Tab previews still show it, and one accidental "share desktop" click exposes everything at once.

What does not work

  • Logging out of WeChat. You miss work messages and the group chat keeps buzzing on your phone anyway.
  • Turning off WeChat notifications. Fewer banners, but the window itself is still visible whenever it is on screen.
  • Dragging WeChat to a second monitor. Safer only until you share the wrong screen, and chat previews on the primary screen can still leak.
  • Blurring in the meeting app. Zoom's blur covers the camera, not the shared desktop — it does nothing for window privacy.

What actually works: window capture exclusion

Windows has a built-in mechanism for exactly this: an app window can mark itself as excluded from capture. When marked, the window does not appear in any screen recording or share — Zoom, Teams, Meet, OBS — while staying fully visible on your own monitor.

The catch: only the application that owns the window can set that flag, and WeChat does not offer it. HideMyShare sets the flag on WeChat's behalf, so the WeChat window simply disappears from the shared stream while you keep chatting normally.

Step by step (about 30 seconds)

  1. Install HideMyShare and open it before the call (Windows 10 version 2004 or later, Windows 11 supported).
  2. Choose the WeChat preset — or pick the WeChat window from the live window list.
  3. Start sharing your screen in Zoom, Teams, or Meet as usual.

The WeChat window is now invisible to everyone on the call. Windows you open later (a new chat, a file preview) are detected and protected automatically within about a second, and the input method candidate bar — the suggestion strip above your typing — is protected too.

Does it work in every meeting app?

Yes, as long as the app shares through the normal Windows capture path: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, DingTalk, Tencent Meeting, Feishu/Lark, and OBS recordings or streams. The exclusion is enforced by the operating system, so no per-app support is needed.

Two things it is not: it does not blur WeChat (it removes it from the capture entirely), and it does not hide it from someone standing next to your physical screen. It protects the share, not the room.

FAQ

Will meeting participants see a blank gap where WeChat was? No. The other windows take up the space, exactly as if WeChat were not there.

Can I still read and reply to messages during the call? Yes. The window stays fully interactive on your screen — you just cannot be seen doing it.

Does this hide WeChat from recording software too? Yes. OBS, Loom, and any capture based on the standard Windows path respect the exclusion, so recordings and streams are protected as well.

Is HideMyShare a WeChat plugin or modification? No. It runs as a standalone Windows tool and does not modify WeChat in any way.

Will people know I hid something? The shared view looks like a normal desktop without that window. Nothing marks the spot.
